I would like to welcome you and also thank you for taking the time to visit the NJ State Archives section of the NJ Powerlifting web site. The purpose of this archives section is to share some of our NJ Powerlifting History with today's active Powerlifters, as a means of preserving our past and also motivating those newer lifters to see what can be accomplished over time. For those not familiar with USA powerlifting (USAPL) we were originally formed in 1983 as the American Drug Free Powerlifting Association (ADFPA), a Powerlifting organization designed to cater to the needs of the Drug Free Powerlifting community. The organization took on the USAPL name in 1997 when we officially became the United States affiliate of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), which is generally considered to be the preeminent Powerlifting Organization in the world today.

New Jersey was one of the founding member states of the ADFPA back in 1983 and we have been running Drug Tested New Jersey State meets since that year. This archive now contains the results from all of these State meets from 1983 to present, most in the form of the actual Meet Result write-ups that were submitted to Powerlifting USA magazine over the years. We owe a great debt of gratitude to our own Ron Falcone for tracking down all but one of said results from his extensive Powerlifting USA collection. That last write-up, which covered our 1st State Meet back in 1983, was graciously provided by Joe Braca from Pennsylvania. Joe goes back in Powerlifting even longer than Ron and I and was one of the early stars of the ADFPA, and we thank him for completing our collection. As for the results themselves it was definitely nostalgic for me to see them all collected in one place. Having competed in my 1st State meet back in 1985 I have known, or at least seen, most of the lifters that have competed in the NJ State Meets over the years. NJ has produced more than it's fair share of exceptional Powerlifters over the last 23 years and you can see many of those names sprinkled though out these results. Said competitors includes legendary NJ lifters that started back in the 1960's, like Joe Pyra, Jules "Butch" Pellegrino, and Hank Sisca; National and International level competitors like Ray Benemerito, James Benemerito, Pete Gori, Robert Wagner, Michelle DeGennaro, Sikopu "Scope" Savaiinea, Joe McCauliffe, Bill Scully, Bill Clayton, John Corsello, Jerry Dally, Kenny Davis, Ron Falcone, Dennis Cieri, Joe DeMatteo, Brian Callahan and many, many more lifters that I could name who have given their heart and soul to this sport that we all toil at so diligently. There were lifters who were "stars" from a very young age to lifters that worked years to develop into elite level lifters. Truly a lesson can be learned here that in our sport hard work and perseverance can take you a long way. I hope you all enjoy looking at these results as much as I have. Good luck in all your future endeavors both on the Powerlifting Platform and off.
